Short answer: Our officially licensed AFL pool cue is a 57in two-piece ash cue with a 10 mm Elkmaster tip, in 19 club designs. The NRL cue shares the same spec in 16 clubs. Both codes also come as 2in Aramith ball sets and kelly pool sets.

Is the AFL pool cue a proper playing cue?
Yes. It is built like a standard club cue, not a display piece. The shaft is ash, the usual timber for snooker and English-style pool cues, and its straight grain gives you a line to sight along. The 57in length is the standard adult length.
The 10 mm tip is an Elkmaster, a soft leather tip that compresses on contact and holds chalk, so side and screw work as they should. Ten millimetres suits the 2in balls on most pub and home tables. A brushed chrome ferrule protects the end of the shaft, and a high-density rubber butt protector takes the knocks. The NRL cue is built to the same spec.

Which AFL and NRL clubs are available?
The AFL cue comes in all 18 clubs: Adelaide, Brisbane, Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Fremantle, Geelong, Gold Coast, GWS, Hawthorn, Melbourne, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, Richmond, St Kilda, Sydney, West Coast and the Western Bulldogs, plus the Brisbane Lions full-colour limited edition.
The NRL cue comes in 16 clubs: Brisbane, Canterbury, Canberra, Cronulla, Gold Coast, Manly, Melbourne, Newcastle, North Queensland, Parramatta, Penrith, South Sydney, St George, Sydney Roosters, the New Zealand Warriors and Wests Tigers.
Stock moves club by club, especially before finals and Christmas. Each product page shows which clubs are available now.
What size are the AFL and NRL pool balls?
2in (50.8 mm). That is the standard size for 7ft and 8ft tables, the common home and pub sizes here. A 9ft or larger table takes 2 1/16in balls, and an American table takes 2 1/4in, so the team sets won't suit those. If you're not sure, measure a ball from your current set.
The sets are made by Aramith from phenolic resin, which resists the chips and flat spots that cheaper polyester balls pick up from repeated breaks. Each set pairs eight club logo balls against eight plain coloured balls for standard eight ball, with an Aramith Super Premier cue ball and an 8 ball; the AFL 8 ball carries the premiership cup.

How does a kelly pool set work?
Kelly pool is played on a standard table by two to sixteen people. Each player draws a marble from the shaker in secret and has to pot the ball that matches it, so the whole room can share one rack. The AFL and NRL sets swap numbers for teams: 16 team balls, a premiership cup ball, an Aramith cue ball, the shaker bottle and 16 logo marbles.
One thing to know before buying the AFL set: the AFL has 18 clubs and the set has 16 team balls, so two clubs aren't in it. If your club matters, check the product photos or ask us before you order. For a numbered kelly pool set, see kelly pool balls.

Who suits the licensed range?
- A gift for a footy fan who plays pool: the AFL or NRL cue in their club. It is a real playing cue, so it will get used, not hung on a wall.
- A games room or man cave in club colours: a team ball set or kelly pool set on a 7ft or 8ft table, with the cue to match.
- A footy club or social club room: the kelly pool set, which lets a group play together.
- Kids: the 52in AFL Kids Flash Cue. A full-length cue is too long for a child to draw back properly, which is how a poor stroke gets learned early.
What else goes with an AFL or NRL cue?
- A case. The cue doesn't come with one. A two-piece cue case protects it in the car and at the club.
- Chalk. A leather tip only grips with chalk on it. See chalk.
- Replacement tips. The tip is glued on, so it can be replaced when it wears. See cue tips.
